Not a fan of doilies? You might change your mind after this diy!
Doilies aren’t a popular choice for decorating at this day and age. Maybe because we have seen how it was used by our grandparents and it feels so dated.
If you aren’t a fan of doilies, this craft may change your mind. Another way to use your doily is to use it for a glass jar luminary. Make several of these easy DIY to create a truly romantic night or set-up a serene ambiance on evenings when you just need to chill.
C’mon you can do this!
MATERIALS:
Glass jar
Paper Doily
Scissors
Mod Podge or any decoupage glue matte finish
Paintbrush
Strip of ribbon
Tealight candle
Glue gun or hot glue
Get some pretty paper doily and look around your house for an empty glass jar. I used white for this DIY but you can use any color you like. You can even color your white doily first before beginning this craft.
Get one piece of doily and fold it in half. Cut a semi-circle from that folded up doily. When you open it up, there will be a round hole at the center.
Use Mod Podge or any decoupage glue and spread a generous amount all over the back side of the doily and gently stick it to the jar. I chose a matte finish to achieve a frosted look on the glass jar.
Hmmm, are you starting to like doilies now?
Get another doily and cut it in half. Spread decoupage glue on the back side and paste it on the rim of the jar. Do the same process on the opposite side of the rim.
Apply decoupage glue. This part of the doily can be pretty stubborn (like some people we know, right, lol) and will tend to lift up from the rim so press hard on the doily to take the shape of the rim and then apply a generous amount of decoupage glue. That should work.
Apply 2-3 coats of decoupage glue all over the bottle. Make sure every coat is totally dry before applying the next coat.
Finishing touches for this doily jar luminary.
You can put a ribbon around the rim if you want. I found a strip of silver sparkly ribbon in my stash so I used glue gun to attach it around the rim.
Well, look at this lovely luminary.! Doesn’t look dated at all. After you make one or even several, place some tea candles inside it then chill and light ’em up for a very romantic night.
You can totally rock this!
